so i still have some questions... would the ebtech line leveler work for my situation???
|
I took a quick look at that - it has one preset amount of signal attenuation; If it converts a +10 db signal to a -4db signal, then it attenuates the signal by 14db. If that amount of cut is exactly what you need, sure, it would work fine. The in-line volume control will attenuate the signal, but is infinitely variable, so you can adjust it to the amount of attenuation you need. It seems to me that you will need to adjust it to compensate for where you set the amp's volume control. It is also a lot cheaper.: D

If i went the route of using a booster to bring my signal up how would i know where to set the leveler and the booster to get unity gain?

You would have to use your ears - first listen with nothing in the loop, then set up the loop and adjust it to where it is approx. the same volume. Alternately, you could use a sound pressure level meter to compare the stuff-in-the-loop volume to the nothing-in-the-loop volume.

What kind of noise issues would i run into... some one also suggested a passive di box hooked up backwards would fix my problem... is this true?

Anything you add to the signal chain can add some noise, but unless you end up with a ground loop, I don't think it will add enough noise to be an issue. I don't see how a DI box is going to be useful.
The BDAB boost is going to be a clean boost; it won't distort unless you overload its input. You can PM Eric with your question about the max boost ( I have one in my Trinity), I would guess that its somewhere around +25 db or so.
