yeah but there is something to be said about losing steam. take a show like Heroes, for example. people are hyped up on it, there is a time lapse, and people wander off. the writer's strike didn't help matters either, but waiting too long is dangerous for a show.

Well, maybe the whole twisted plot with Lost is what helped keep people's attention. The Walking Dead would be ruined if it got into the whole "what's going to happen next" thing. For example, the way the black cloud showed up out of nowhere. There wouldn't be the whole paranormal aspect; for one, the show is about zombies. It doesn't need anything supernatural or weird like someone seeing a creepy black cloud come out of the sky, or dreaming something else weird, then it'd be A) overdone, and B) too complex for anyone to want to keep up with. The Walking Dead is simple: zombies, survivors. Sure, there are more details, but nothing really throws you a curve ball. Everything you see is something you'd expect to happen in a zombie apocalypse. Guns to loot, fast cars lying around, corpses littering the streets, buildings exploding, camps of survivors pockmarking the countryside, abandoned military outposts, the constant threat of dead, personality clashes, mixed feelings, tragedy, loss of loved ones, etc. All of these have been a part of the story line. I wouldn't expect Darth Vader to ride in on a TIE fighter and start taking out zombies (and if that becomes a fanfiction then you deserve to have your hands removed and your eyes gouged out with a spoon). In Lost, weird stuff happened that you didn't really expect. It worked for Lost, but wouldn't work for the Walking Dead.

Heroes also had a sharp drop in quality.

It got a ton of buzz as the first zombie show and it's viewership has grown since people have typically really liked it. A year from now they'll get a ton of buzz since the only show about zombies is returning.

It's such a distinct genre and it's the only show doing it. It's difficult to compare it to other shows because other shows have genre competition. People wander to other shows where they can get their fix of the genre. Here they're the only provider.

Of course...my interest in that question will certainly disappear by next October...but my interest in a zombie tv show won't

Ok. I am very interested in this show. Is there anywhere to watch it online that is free (like hulu)? Or can you only see it on amazon video, or somewhere similar?

I might just break down and buy the seasons, Idk.

I current have the first 3 volumes of the Walking Dead comics (1 huge hard cover edition with volume 1+2, and a seperate paperback volume 3). Already, I have fallen in love with the comics and need to start watching this series (I promised myself that I'd read the comics before I watch the show). Now that I've read a bit of the comics, I can finally say that the new show looks splendid.

I was kind of skeptical and somewhat hesitant to watch it, just not into gore. but it was a gripping story. greatly looking forward to season two.

It's funny that I started this thread because by the third or fourth episode I had lost interest in the show entirely.

I was hoping that season 1 would eventually be available on Netflix, but not yet. I missed a few episodes and would like to fill in the blanks. Oh, well...

I am looking forward to season 2, looks good so far.
