My limits go like this:

Rhythm - 5030 points
Soloing - 858 points
Picking - 2642 points
Effect usage - 3475 points
Gear - 3740 points
Shredding - 4 points

I should have picked a more hard core character... I went for a "Bi-Weekly Player." I REALLY should have chosen "Guitar pwner"

Is there a cheat code for unlimited soloing points?

On a serious note, this thread has encouraged me to play a little more today than I did yesterday.

I think every guitarist has a limit. However, I bet you only a few dozen actually ever really hit it. Heck, Django Reinhardt and Iommi Kind of prove most of us are complete wusses about it.

And some guitarists have immense natural ability. I have met 2 that just really were amazing and started a few tiers above me. One is my little brother. But I know I am nowhere near my limit. When a technical wizard says they have a limit, (and I have read several speak of theirs) then I believe them. My great uncle who has been playing 70+ years has health limits on his speed now. Can he still play circles around me? Oh yeah! The man may be blind and over 90, but He still plays a mean LP into a fullstack marshall. (as his hearing has gone down the amps just get bigger, its really funny to watch)

Of course we can all see that a really old guy has health limits and our minds and biology do limit us. Do we ever hit that? Very few of us.

I think there would be. Probably the older version would have better skills at the end of it in a usable sense. The way we learn is different, but the older I get, the more focused my practice gets. Just hazarding a guess.

The younger guy would probably learn more songs, the older would probably want to learn how those songs work and why. Or at least that is how I would compare myself 15 years ago and 5.

I definitely think that everybody has their limit, but that few actually hit the ceiling. I recently read the book "Outliers" and it mentions that once somebody has about 10,000 hours into something, they are an expert. I easily have that many hours into playing guitar, yet I still can't play as well as some guys I've met that haven't put that much time into it. That being said, I'm definitely better than some other players simply because I was able to devote my teenage years to just practicing. But I still practice about 7 or more hours a week (far less than I used to!), and haven't really seen much improvement in the last few years. I've picked up some licks here or there, but I've definitely plateaued and I think its because I'm approaching my own ceiling, whether its from time constraints of not being able to practice enough to improve or I just mentally can't handle anything more than I already know.

I think people have limits but I would say it's more physical than mental. But you also have to take into account practis time, how you practis, natural ability and other things I'm sure I'm leaving out. Like myself I don't practis enough as I should. But at the same time I look at a book and can get lost pretty easy but let me watch a video or play with another person and I can pick things up way easier. But the there is some thing that I try to play and I either can't reach what I need to or my hand just doesn't move like I need it to as in some chords as very hard for me to form much less play. I'm sure you guys can tell me if thats a physical or practis issue. I was in a hard rock/metal cover band one time and was learning songs left and right being able to watch the other guitar player.
