New Piano Day!

I just got the call. Our Roland V Piano is waiting for a ride home.

Once we get it up and running I'll share the details.

No pictures yet. We got the piano out for a trial run last Sunday night. Wow. The sound is just nothing short of amazing even through our old PA system with it's considerable limitations. The keyboard action was great. I had doubts about the thing when we ordered one but now I'm a believer. Any church considering spending serious money on a piano should go no further than looking at the Roland.

It's been a few weeks now and I have to say you either love this thing or hate it.

I'll go with the haters first. The big complaint is the appearance. It's sleek and black. Oh, and everyone is ticked off that it doesn't have a music holder. Everyone but the pianists, that is. One guy is going to make some wooden abomination to sit on top of it as a music holder which I give about a zero chance of actually working. We also have folks who complain it doesn't sound like the old piano. Yeah, it's in tune and has a pleasing tone. One guy complained because we were hitting it with a wee bit of reverb from the sound room. It's either too loud or not loud enough depending on who is doing the complaining. They keyboard feels stiff and funny. Basically the haters don't like it because it's not a piano like they remember from their youth.

The lovers? Let's see. They can change the tone to suit their personality. It's in perfect tune. They don't have to bang on the keys like they're in a Dodge City Saloon to be heard. One of our pianists has figured out she can use the "transpose" feature to make her beloved personal sheet music match what the praise band is playing. We can hear it through the monitors. The keyboard feels perfect. Our pianists now spend more time playing musically and less time thumping on the keyboard to be heard.

Once we get the new stage built I'll get some pictures posted.
