I enjoyed it a lot actually. But then I love cheesy movies and it was very, very cheesy.

What were you expecting? It was exactly what it promoted itself to be.

Alien 3

As a stand alone movie it would be an ok "Alien" rip-off. As a sequel to Aliens, it's unforgivable.

I have hated the majority of Hollywood's remakes of either 1) old or 2) foreign horror movies.

We didn't need Jason, Freddy and Michael Myers re-imagined for a new generation. We didn't really need the originals for MY generation.

Pirates 2 and 3 (and most likely 4)

I didn't have a problem with The Expendables. I went in with low expectations and had a fairly entertaining 1 1/2 hours watching it.
I agree on Pirates 2 & 3, hopefully not having Will and Elizabeth in 4 helps it be better.
Aliens 3 was bad. Alien: Resurrection wasn't great either, but I think 3 was the worst.
I despised American Pie, that may be the worst movie I've seen.
Van Wilder. Too trashy for my tastes.

Neither live up to the first two, but Alien: Resurrection doesn't start off by undermining the victory of the previous film.

That's all I can think of. Or maybe they just didn't like it. I thought it was an excellent movie. One of my favorites of all time.

Movies I hated:

"Nights in Rodanthe" = a movie with absolutely no point, purpose, or reason for existing

"Dear John" = basically starts out as a good love story and turns into a waste of a movie because of Nicolas Sparks' magical ability to sadistically think up the worst possible endings ever (with the added bonus of being obsessed with cancer). Plus it starred Amanda Seyfriend and Channing Tatum, neither of which are good actors/actresses.

"Letters to Juliet" another movie starring Amanda Seyfried that really sucked. I predicted everything that happened in the movie with astonishing accuracy. Waste of 2 hours.

"The Fountain" starring Hugh Jackman = epic suckiness

"Lars and the Real Girl" = really, really boring with no redemptive value whatsoever

"The Adjustment Bureau" Not really hated, but very mockable and cheesy. Not much effort put into the plot.

"When in Rome" = sucky horrible cheesy predictable chick flick

"Because I Said So" = one of the worst movies I've ever seen

"Life As We Know It" = no redemptive value whatsoever... even my wife was like "what is the point of this movie"

"The Back Up Plan" = another horrible chick flick. After watching this movie, combined with the other previous crappy chick flicks on my list, even my wife started to question why Hollywood even bothers making these movies if they're not going to put any effort into the production of them

"Ghost Rider" = Nick Cage is horrible

"Lord of War" = Nick Cage is horrible

"The Bounty Hunter" = normally would be a horrible movie but it's worsened by Gerard Butler's presence. I just really hate this movie. I don't know why.

Now this is not to say that I don't like chick flicks, but I'd prefer them to include a real hottie like Rachel McAdams (ie Time Traveler's Wife). Not some dumbo like Amanda Seyfried or J-Lo.
I think that your problem is that you make terrible choices. If you didn't like the first two Nicolas Sparks movies, then why watch the third one? Not trying to rip on you, but seriously. Watch movies that you are interested in and don't watch the typical crap that hollywood dumps out.

My wife likes chick flicks, so I watch them with her. Also, I think one of them I didn't know was a Nicolas Sparks movie at the time, can't remember though. Plus, most of the movies on my list were rented from a redbox for $1.00 so it's not like I wasted a ton of money on them. To say I make terrible choices is really ignorant of the reasons why I watch these movies, and ignorant of the amount of movies I watch. It's not like these movies are the only movies I watch. These are just the hated ones that had no redemptive value whatsoever to me. I've watched tons more that sucked, but that I was able to enjoy because there was something good about it that I liked.

I assumed that it was your girlfriend or wife that got you to watch it. My girlfriend loves chick flicks as well, but if it looks like something that I'll be miserable watching then I veto it. Similarly she vetoes anything that she doesn't want to watch (anything super violent or scary). So we watch those movies with other people or alone. I wouldn't want her to waste time watching something that she's not going to enjoy. Neither of us have to watch stuff we don't want to see = win.
