| Sponsored charity headshave? As I mentioned on another thread, a while ago my wife helped sponsor a coworker who was doing a headshave; she was having it done for charity.
So has anyone considered such a shave? and would the charity have to be compelling before some ppl considered it?

| I shave my head because it sucks to wake up at work with bed head, then go to someone's house to help them looking like a scrub. *shrug* |

Well, I see.
Sounds like it wouldn't hurt to do it for charity, either, like my wife's coworker did with her hair, if you liked a particular charity enough, that is.
(I guess for shavees - if this is a word - who are women, it can be just a bit more radical, though...)

| Well... these charities usually need 10" or more of hair, if you are talking about the same kind of thing I am. Locks of Love is on such organization. They make wigs from the hair, and give them to people who need them. Cancer patients and the like. My hair never makes it past two inches. |

Yes, you are right; L of L often gets given women's hair of at least a certain length.
Which kind of bears tribute to the amount who are willing to shed theirs, for charity.

| I have considered doing something like this. I have heard of charities that work like walk-a-thons where you collect money from people to get your head shaved. I haven't done it yet, and would still have to convince my wife it's a great idea. |

Okay.
So, far more likely you than she, then.

| I knew some people in college who did this. But it did work like a walk-a-thon - basically they went to their friends, said they were shaving their head for charity, and asked for donations for that charity. So really, the head shaving was unnecessary, it was just to raise awareness of the charity. Now, my friends who met the requirements for Locks of Love did donate their hair, but others didn't. I believe LoL requires hair to be at least 10 inches, and dyed is OK but highlighted or bleached is not (hence, even though my hair is long enough, I would be ineligible because I highlight my hair pretty regularly).
I would consider possibly donating hair to Locks of Love at some point, but I don't think I would want to shave my head...I'd rather raise money for charity another way lol

Ty for comment. I guess I can understand your reluctance to do a shave. But I didn't realize that LoL refuses highlighted hair; maybe they mean streaked in unnatural colors such as bright red or blue, etc.
(There's another thread on this site that someone started about Mohawks; and there are various varieties and shapes of those, too. I guess that some ppl who have gone in for haircuts such as mohawks or other styles that can involve a bit of shaving, e.g., at the sides, might eventually be willing to go the whole way and have a fuller shave. Not sure whether my wife's coworker had previously done this, though.)

Also, the colder weather may not be the best time to shave one's head - for charity or otherwise - for some ppl...

Oh really, so with LofL I guess this rules out many if not most younger women, unless they use a whole lot of shampoo first.....
(But what do I know?)

Actually, Steve's point about LofL's restrictions is one which you raised as well.
I suppose they want to cater exclusively to ppl who want natural hair color.

I suppose they want to cater exclusively to ppl who want natural hair color. | It's not about color as much as quality. Bleaching and highlighting do a lot of damage to your hair. Certain dyes might be okay, but I know many dye colors require bleaching in the process. |

You have a good point there, too.
But whatever some ppl may think, I guess that ppl - especially young women - are going to start dyeing theirs sooner or later, often with streaks or highlights - natural or unnatural - and maybe it needs to be understood more how dyes work.
Some ppl also go for the option of a complete shave.
