Smile GNX 3000 and/or GT 10

Hi guys,

I'm using the GNX 3000 that I've had for about 3 years now.

Lately, now that I am playing a wider variety of music styles for worship, I've become dissatisfied with the relatively low number of patches usable for worship that are available out there.

So I've been considering an upgrade to a GT-10, but then heard about the MFX Supermodels patches from MTProSound for the GNX 3000.

So here's my question(s):

1. Has anyone used the patches from MFX Supermodels? If these will really bring out the best in the GNX 3000 I won't have to spend the money to upgrade to a GT10.

2. The GT 10 - how easy is it to upgrade patches, and are there "good" ones out there.

I've read a lot of reviews and that still seem to give the GNX 3000 top marks. I don't think Digitech ever really gave it a chance. Never any firmware updates or patches came from the company.

Is this the same situation for Boss? or do they really support their equipment?

I really don't have the money to invest in another expensive piece of hardware that will have no support, firmware updates, or really high end patches, and I really don't care what box plays the tones, as long as I can get access to upgrade-ability and a wide variety of quality patches.

Any and all advice is welcome.

Thanks.

As I remember, the 3000 was out for a very short time, and was replaced by either the GNX3 or 4. I would venture to say there aren't as many pre-made patches for it because there aren't that many in use. Firmware upgrades, maybe same reason, but also those are often to fix problems; if there aren't any problems with the software/unit, it doesn't need any.

I personally would suggest that you make your own patches. The very few I downloaded years ago for my Johnson J-Station I thought were appallingly bad - overly compressed, overly distorted, grossly over effected. I think there may be more players who use these modeler/multiFX things to get bad tones than there are players who get good tones.

That aside, though, a competent patch-maker-guy comes up with a patch to use with his guitar, to sound good thru his rig (direct to PA or a keyboard type amp, headphones, or even a real guitar amp), and then in his "playing context" (maybe he rolls off the tone control and I don't, and/or maybe he keeps his guitar's volume turned halfway down and I don't, and/or he plays very softly and I don't). Then I try it with my guitar (with higher output pickups, for example) thru my rig, with my playing context...how can I expect that to sound good ?

Hello, I have owned the GNX3000 with the supermodels, and now I am currently a GT-10 player/lover. The thing is amazing!

As far as pre made patches, I prefer to make my own as opposed to trying to us someone else. But I can tell you the amps that come with the supermodels are excellent! What is not excellent about the GNX3000 is the FX, patch switch time and versatility. No dotted eigth delays, minimal delays types/quality not too good. The modulations are very bad IMHO. The GT-10 has top quality FX jusyt about as good as having the individual Boss pedals at your feet, and in some cases better. For instance the Boss TR-2 Tremolo is a great pedal, really like the industry standard for tremolo IMO, but the Tremolo in the GT-10 is better because it has a few mre parameters and the ability to set it as a note value synced to the global BPM, which the TR-2, and most tremolos can not do. Also it has dual FX/amp chains. It is about10 times harder to use than the GNX, but it is not unobtainable.

Hope that helps. And if you want some basic advice on building your very own patches, GNX GT or any others, feel free to hit me up with a PM or you can call me if you want. My number is on my site in my signature.
