| The Official IRC Thread Are you sitting alone in IRC with no one to chat with? Well, if you don't want to go read a book or actually turn off your computer for once in your life, use this thread to complain about it. Who knows? Maybe someone will take pity on you and sign on. Why use this thread? Because we have like seven hundred threads dedicated to "I'm bored in IRC blah blah" already. This keeps it all in one place.
If you're one of those interweb newbies that still doesn't have a clue how to get on IRC, or what IRC even is, this next section is for you. WHAT IS IRC? Google WHAT IS #CGR?
Its a channel on the FreeNode IRC network, foo! HOW DO I GET ON?
1) STEP ONE THE FIRST
Windows: Download BERSIRC or some other client. Google it.
Linux: Get XChat, if you don't already have it.
Mac: Get a PC. Or figure it out yourself. If you haven't realized by now, google is your best friend for things like this.
ALL: Hey, there's a web client for Freenode! freenode Web IRC (qwebirc) You can use this if you're lazy and don't want to download anything.
2) STEP TWO THE SECOND
Figure out how to use your client. You need to connect to the FreeNode server, and then join #cgr. The methods for setting up servers are different across all clients, but most involve a dialog box with a list of servers to select from. If you can read, you can find FreeNode. The web chat should already be connected to freenode. If it isn't, you clicked the wrong link.
3) THERE IS NO STEP THREE
4) FOURTH STEP
Now, you need to set your nickname and join up. This is as simple as typing /nick followed by whatever you want your nickname to be. Max of 16 characters, no spaces, hey look a bunny! If you get a message saying your nick is registered, you need to pick a new one. After you have your nick, type /j #cgr or /join #cgr.
5) PROFIT! the fine print:
The #cgr IRC channel is not officially affiliated in any way with CGR or it's administration, and is privately maintained by CGR members. The primary rule of the IRC channel is to respect others. Any IRC related questions can be directed to the channel operators Art, el cabong, Rainer., gg7 or Ryan Freeland. Remember to have fun, but play nice.

| You forgot step 4.5, which is ????? and is necessary before step 5) Profit can be reached.
Also, you didn't mention the three letters of recommendation that the IRC n00bs need from well established IRC users like myself or ChanServ before they can join the channel, nor did you mention the research paper.
Good day to you, sir. |

| You made that up. The only requirement to join is that you FedEx me some cookies. PM me for my mailing address. I like chocolate chip. Good day to your face.
And, keeping with the purpose of this thread, I'll be in there in five minutes, and I'm pretty bored.
