NHL 2010-2011

Might as well start this now.

Start off with this story about Luongo giving up the 'C':

Roberto Luongo relinquishes captaincy - 2010 Offseason News

Think there might be more to this story Skeeter?

I wish I could say I'm excited about the Leafs, but it looks like they'll have to win 1-0 every night just to snag a playoff berth. I am pumped to watch the young guys again though and see how they develop.

I am very excited. I was wearing one of my Sharks shirts yesterday, and a cute girl said, "Whoo, Go Sharks!" as I walked by. That made me even more pumped.

See when I wear a Leafs shirt, I'm as likely to get run over by a curb-hopping SUV as I am to get a cute girl saying "Go Leafs!" to me

No. Luongo has stated that he wasn't pressured to make the change and made his own choice. I've seen no indication that anything else happened.

So Savards symptoms are back (were they ever gone?), so he'll miss part of the season right off the bat.

The Leafs won a great game last night, including an 11-round shootout. I think the huge roster overhaul last year made it hard to figure out their roles on the team, but now they seem to be figuring it out, at least on individual levels. Luke Schenn looks like he's ready to become the player the Leafs envisioned when they drafted him 5th overall in '08. The kid is still only 20 years old. Phil Kessel looks fantastic - anything less than 40 goals would be a disappointment for him. Nazem Kadri, the great hope for a top-flight center, hasn't done anything to impress management. Unless he steps it up bigtime over the last few games of the preseason, he'll start the season with the Marlies. I'm predicting an 11th-place finish. I will guarantee you, however, that no one will enjoy playing the Leafs. They may not win a lot of games, but you'll have to pay the price to beat them, especially with bruisers Schenn, Mike Komisarek, Dion Phaneuf, and Francois Beauchemin on the blueline. I'd love to see Dion start stepping up on some unsuspecting forwards in the neutral zone again, something that he didn't do much of after he came over to the Leafs.

Early thoughts on your teams?

What can I say about the Canucks? They addressed every single one of their deficiencies during the off-season and are now a favorite for the Stanley Cup. It feels too good to be true, which it probably is. I'll be posting a more thorough season preview on Pass it to Bulis next week which will likely be incredibly pessimistic and cynical, but that's not how I actually feel. I'm incredibly optimistic and excited about the upcoming season.

Canucks are 0-3 right now.....

I think Luongo's captaincy was ready to be yielded. He couldn't talk to the referees, talk to players on the bench, or do much on the ice in between plays. Really, he was only a captain in the locker room and off the ice. Might as well just be an influential dude, IMO.

Bruins are going to tank, and will trade Savard before the deadline. No Trade For Tim Thomas.

West Coast Stanley Cup. Pacific Division. Sharks or Coyotes.

In the preseason. There's no point in tracking wins and losses in the preseason. It's the preseason.

I mean, we're talking about preseason...

The worst part about Luongo being a captain was that he could not wear the C on his sweater for games.

Plus, that stuff about not being able to talk to players on the bench/between plays.

So, the Sharks have the same players, minus Nabby, Malhotra and Blake, plus Niemi/Nittymaki. I think the biggest loss has to be Malhotra. He was phenomenal for the Sharks last year.

But right now, baseball is happening.

So?!

I think this is why Canada has better hockey teams than the US in general

So... regular season anything > preseason anything. Also, this might be why the Blue Jays are never going to win another world series.
