HI! What happened to "Hello, how are ya, RAINER, I need help"

What style are you playing this in?

I'm guessing you want me to tell you what sort of scales you want to be using. When I'm faced with something akin to this, I just play it on a loop, record it or something. Theory is great for describing what's going on musically, but bad for creating.

So, I'd guess I'd base something around A. Maybe bluesy, maybe not, again whatever style you're working with. Use your ears.

My bad. Hello, how are ya, Rainer? Would you mind helping a bud wiht something?

And no, not scales is what i'm looking for. Sorry i didnt have much time to type my original post.

Basically, its a jazzy feeling thing. Done acoustically. No picks, fingers. Hands slap down on guitar after every half beat to keep time/sound cool.

What i'm looking for is the next step. How do I turn this into a song? I REALLY like it. It has this smooth, sexy, relaxed, but up beat jazzy feel. Theres gonna be a chick singing it, if that makes a difference.

Basically, how do i create a melody for it? Dissect each chord, find notes, put notes together into a nice string?

And, what I meant is how do i start to build a chorus. I'm not looking for a straight theory answer. I'm sure this breaks a ton of rules or what not in the theory world. Im just wondering how to take this song somewhere. What you suggest?

You could always write the chords out then take notes from that to create a melody line. I have to do that using the bottom 3 voices in my theory class last week.

The best answer though is to just not think about it. Just feel it and hear it. Be creative... if your first attempt sounds like crap then try again. If you can find a good progression you should be able to make up a melody line

Good luck!

Gotcha. I'd just start singing. I'd start out with the notes are in the chord, and see where they like to pass to one another.

Maroon 5's "This Love" has a progression that starts on a diminished chord, and in that case, the melody floats along the blues. If you think about an A harmonic minor sort of flavor over the Dhalfdim and move into a blues for the rest of the progression, it might work out.

It really feels based around an A blues to me, so I'd stick to bluesy idioms in the key of A for developing a chorus. Just messing around, I could come up with a chorus that involves a G7 and E7(#9). Or use some chromatic step ups or downs (B7 Bb7 A7?). D7b9? F#m13... or just play more around the C7 B7 movement.

I'm sorry. can you clarify "A Blues"? You've used it a lot. What do you mean? Like... F#minor blues scale?

But thanks to both of yall, i've come up with some ideas.

I mean the A blues scale is where this tune seems to "live". For lack of better terms.

I mean your progression is just bluesy, and it centers around the root of A. The distinction between the major and minor third (whether you'll want to use C# or C) is a bit transient, for most of the progression, C will be acceptable, while you'll get a lot of tension sitting on the C when playing A7, resolving it to C# would work....

Again, all for lack of better words.
