Wut.

Sufjan runs and releases his own label. I think the tendency is for musicians not on the big "Christian" labels to be regarded as trying to promote to a secular audience as "crossover groups". I don't think that's the case with Sufjan at all, I think he's basically making the music he wants to make and releasing it on his own, which happens to be well received by secular audiences because, well, it's just amazing music. It's not very well spread by the CCM machine, because that scene has never really been very independent music friendly.

He's just making really great music.

I saw him live last month, too. It was incredible.

Very good point. He doesn't have to try to 'sell' his latest and greatest to the record label. He IS the record label.

I've listened to the music, and least, and can say that the soundtrack is really interesting. It's very Sufjan, but in a far more orchestral mode, I guess. I certainly wouldn't call it "Classical", though.

Listening to the SS tribute right now. It's interesting, I'll say that much.

I too have heard the BQE but haven't seen the documentary yet. "Orchestral Sufjan" is the perfect description for it.
