Golf Question: How do I hit the ball lower and get more distance?

I hit the ball far too high especially with my 5-9 irons. I have very flexible shafts. My timing and contact with the ball is good. How do I hit lower trajectory and get more distance? Thinking of getting new clubs soon. What type of clubs would suit?

Aim higher on the ball...though FWIW with the 8 and 9 you should be getting high trajectory and somewhere around 120 yards of distance.

Who knows how this thread will end up, BUT aiming higher on a ball is not easy for your average person, if he already struggles with hitting it high, then he can't adjust.

That being said, the only reason you wouldn't want to hit a ball high is because of the wind, because unless you hit the ball straight up in the air, you will carry the ball farther. Because a very high 120 8/9 iron is far better than a thin one that goes 140 because it won't stick on a green.

Finally, it comes down to swing speed, adjusting a swing for trajectory is difficult for an average person, so I would recommend (very carefully) seeing if you can swing any faster, Or like he said he has very flexible shafts, stiffer shafts would indeed keep the ball lower.

A personal example, I hit my short irons and wedges at a very high angle, but because of my swing speed, I carry them a good ways (9: 155, 8: 165 etc.). Its not as simple as lowering the trajectory as far as getting more distance

If you want to the ball lower put it further back in your stance. I would say club speed is important if you want to get more distance but be careful when you’re trying to swing faster, the main thing is that you stay consistent.
