| I don't think there is any age, just when ever you are sure go for it.
But I'd wait a good amount of time between you decide what you want and actually getting it, though. This could be weeks, months, a year or more depending on who you are. Just make sure you really want it.
I'd say the best thing to do would be to pick out what you want, then spend a while looking for the artist you want to do it with. Then book a consult with them, maybe a month later.
When you have your consult, you will probably have to put a down payment, and then most good artists are booked up for a while so you might have to wait another month or two.
All in all, it could be a long process but I think it's worth it to give yourself lots of time to change your mind.
Edit: also, male or female shouldn't make a difference. |

| ok, well this is a weird question, becaue to each his own. in my opinion getting a tattoo is whatever age or whenever you want to do it, faith based or not. i'm 25 i have 8 tattoos, got my first when i was 18, kind of that rebelious get a tattoo listen to rock music, smoke cigs phase. so it doesn't matter, i usually like to get one on my birthday for significance of getting older... but i have seen people as old as 50 get them, and my friends neighbors daughter and her friend are both 15, and they have tattoos. (and i tell you because of the tattoos i had no idea how old they were, but thats besides the point) but man as a full supporter of tattoos, if you want to get one, and you have a good design, do it... don't wait and dwell on it. just go get one. do you have a design, show me i like to see... |

Thanks, so at 25 you are well inked, having started at 18.
Re, your 15 year old neighbors, do you think that 15 is a bit young? like, I kind of consider getting tattooed as an adult act, like showing independence as an adult person for something permanent like that.
Most tattooists won't do under 18s anyway, except in states where the law allows it with parental permission.

| yep i'm pretty well inked, if you go to my facebook page in my sig in my photo albums i have one dedicated to my tats.
the girls i think are dressing innapropriately at 15, for me to think that one was 18 and the other 20. yeah..... but to me it really depends, i don't know them well enough, but i do generally think 15 is to young, i think 16 though is ok, if that makes sense, like i have a car, why not tat. but in my opinion what you said about the adult thing is exactly what i did, it was "i'm an adult, i'm getting a tattoo, i don't care."
tattoo artists will deffinitely do under 18 if the parent is there in person to give consent, it happens all the time, some of my friends who are tattoo artists tell me this, and that they tattooed another 5 year old today or something. but i think that tats are becoming more and more accepted, and becoming less considered as evil |

Thanks.
Yes, well I guess that many tattooists in states where the law allows it aren't going to turn away business and refuse to ink 16 year olds who have a parent that will sign for it.
So you think maybe the poll should have an extra option answer for 16s and over, then?
I'm not entirely sure whether a 16 year old truly knows his or her mind at that age.
But anyway maybe moms and dads with tattoos of their own are just a bit more likely to sign for a tattoo for 16 year old sons and daughters . Maybe moms and dads without tats themselves are more likely to expect them to wait until 18, when they don't need a parent to sign for them anyway. (Two cents'...)

| yeah totally, i guess it's all perspective or whatever, if my son want one when he's 16 i'll talk about it with him and go over the design, or just have him do what i did and wait till he's 18 and get it for his birthday or something.
are you planning on getting one? |

| roscoe: Oh, I'm sure you're not THAT old, but to each his or her own taste.
josey: I regret the symbol I got on my arm years ago that soon faded. (Any further suggestions...?(seeing as you're a real expert around here...)

| dude, i don't regret any of my tattoos, never have never will. i think it's mostly because i think about it a while, and make sure it's something i want, i would never get a logo, or band name, or name for that matter. do you have a pic of your tattoo, or what is it, and how old are you man...
anyway this is my next tattoo, it's going to be a little more refined, and a little less pencil drawing looking. but i think it's going on my forearm.
and after that i'm going to get some kind of cross, i really like this one so it may be this, or a variation. but i think i'm going to get the guitar on my right forearm, and the cross on my left. |
