So for a while I didn't bother reading any stories about this "Ground Zero Mosque". Finally I did only to discover that it's not really a mosque and it's not on ground zero. So nope, it's not a big deal to me.

hence the problem with modern journalism... people hear sounds bits and read headlines and make excuses. I think it is incredibly poor journalism to create a headline that says "Muslims to build mosque on ground zero".

Unless the journalist has an agenda.

No one objecting to the community center is objecting to the presence of a retail mall at subway station depth, where there likely exists the ashes and actual remains of victims. When they do, I'll grant them the issue of 'hallowed ground.' Until then, it's sturm und drang, signifying nothing.

There are strip clubs and McDonald's restaurants located even closer to ground zero than this community center. Just saying...

I would be far more offended by a strip club than a mosque, a religious site carries with it at least some gravity and decorum.

Not to mention that, as many have pointed out, there was actually a Muslim prayer room in the World Trade Center itself.

Has anyone watched the interviews with the Imam? The man speaks *very* rationally. I was actually rather impressed.

Interestingly: he has stated that, had he known the response, he would not have place the Mosque there. He feels, however, that relocating now in response to the public pressure of a religious minority would be even more inflammatory elsewhere.

I agree with a point the Imam made. He said ground zero is not hallowed. True enough.

i think that if a better place could be chosen for the mosque that would be nice but there are free to do what they want as long as they are following the rules then they are protected mby the US Constituition. Might just be a rumor but i heard they are opening a gay muslim bar right next door
