The GT-10 is an amzing tool, and for those who are technicaly savvy its limits know no bounds. After having a long stint with the GT-10, I realized my own ignorance of the technical side of sound. I have no idea what to do with a 12 band eq, or what a para eq is suppose to do. Not that this makes me, or any one else who humbly admits this, any less of a player or artist. So I decided the ME-70 would be the next best thing. Was it:idunno2: ?
Price Paid; $170 on Craigs List. The price is definately right!
Ease of use;8
This thing is so easy even a bass player could use it. (Joke, I am ever bit a bass player, and maybe more, than a guitar player) Next to the GT this thing is like simple elementary. Compared to other MFX it is fairly easy to use. I give it an 8. The tricky parts I disliked, which actually are a deal breaker for me, is you dont visually get to see what the parameters of your patches are set at once saved, and
There is no way to go into manual/stompbox mode within a given patch! Why :worry!: This gives a serious diaper rash to anyone who is familiar with just about any other MFX out there. I guess its what makes this pedal unique.
Sound Quality 9
Pro's
The effects are top notch sounding. Boss has seemed to imrove on the Cosm amp modeling with this unit. It only has like 6 preamps of which are run by a 3 band eq, gain and master volume controls. I was most impressed on the improvement on the alleged Vox model, still not Voxish, but a great improvement. The cleans are great, and the high gains are great to, not much Cocked Wah, some of course, but not as bad as others. The modulations are excellent, the harmonist seems quality, it tracks a bit more accurately than others around. The delays of course are of the Boss standard of quality, the tap tempo is present, which is nice on such a bare bones unit, but a little awkward to access. You have to hold the delay pedal down in order to get the tap option. The same tap option is available for every mod ( very nice!) There is also an option in preset mode to use the number/pedal of the preset to tap in the tempo as well. The overdrives and distortions are really good, they work great into a tube amp.
Con's
The reverbs just are not stacking up in quality to what the Gt-10, or even the RV offer. They are still good, very usuable, and lusher to the ears than other brands out there. ALso the analog delay is not tip top, but the average Joe would not notice/cae about that. Also the noise gate is a joke, and the volume pedal is extremely sensitive, if its not firmly cocked a bit of sound still leaks through.
Reliability: 10 Its Boss, its a TANK
Overall I give this unit a 10 for what it is, I really love how it is designed to be used with an amp, yet it has the option to run FRFR with success. MARVELOUS Against other MFx's I give it a solid 8
Initial I called this "the GT-10 for dummies" but it is not able to carry that title, because that is some big shoes to fill.
