| In my experience, Verizon representatives generally lack any knowledge as to what is going on in the Verizon world. |

If (and it's a very small if) this happens this year, it will be September or October. They will want to push it out there for the holiday season. They will not want to by-pass that opportunity.
Keep in mind that just because there is a contract, I'm sure Apple put a clause in there somewhere which allows them to get out for a sum of money. The main sign, like someone else pointed out is when the patents or FCC approval hit a site like MacRumors.

| Also consider that AT&T probably wants the iPhone for as long as possible. Just think if say the iPhone came out for Verizon this year, AT&T would be screwed, even if it was on both, a huge majority of people would choose the Verizon model, because of the 3G issues with AT&T. I'm not hugely into smart phones, but from what I can tell, the iPhone is all AT&T has to compete with Verizon, once AT&T loses its exclusivity to the iPhone, they're in trouble, unless they seriously fix their 3G.
And I don't mean the iPhone is the only good phone on AT&T, but it's the only phone that can really dent Verizon in the smart phone market. If Verizon gets the iPhone, its smart phone lineup would put AT&T to shame. At least now AT&T is still holding on because it's the only carrier that supports the iPhone.

| i wouldn't hop to verizon for an iphone, even if they did fix the issues that mean that I don't get service at my house with them
Is apple going to make a bunch of ads that show people on the phone, and then jumping into an app for data and then have a 'SORRY ONLY ON AT&T LOL"?
Until verizon gets their LTE roll out done and goes 4g, they're still stuck on their backwards CDMA crap that can't do what GSM networks can do. |

Tends to water down their market by their own phones competing against each other. Instead of having a couple of great products they have dozens which tend to leave customers confused and those who bought the latest and greatest version feeling dejected when a newer version comes out.
I know anytime a buy something that seems like the latest and greatest thing out there it aggravates me when they come with an even newer and better version a few months after I get it. I mean seriously they came out with the Incredible and before it even hit the market they came out with X and allowed those getting an Incredible to change to X because its supposed to be even better. All these different phones can lead to confusion for the customers about which one is better.
For the good or bad at least with iPhone its a matter of 3Gs or 4, black or white, 16GB or 32GB. And I know there won't be a new one for another year and even then probably no major upgrades for another 2 years.
I do hope that eventually the iPhone goes to Verizon and then the market will determine which phone platform is better liked. As for me I'm staying with iPhone because I finally at the urging of my wife for many years went Apple by getting my first MacBook Pro last fall. I used to be a very loyal PC guy but over the years grown aggravated by viruses, constantly servicing my computers, etc and since getting the Mac have really fallen in love with their systems and the compatibility of all Apple products to sync together, something you rarely see work efficiently in the PC world. So to each his own and an Android based phone is the superior phone to you by all means get it. I like the iPhone because it works best with my systems and its a great product. |

The Incredible is nothing at all like the Droid X. They may run the OS, but they are very different phones. I really believe that you are overestimating it. I would never have been in the market for any of the phones running Android except the Motorola Droid, other than to upgrade to the Droid X.
I think it's kind of like saying all PCs are basically the same, so it doesn't matter who you buy yours from. We all know that is not true; some companies have much better reputations than others, because they make better products. Some choices are made based on what that company offers in their machines. It is totally the same with Android based phones. |

| the only two android phones that intrigue me (and yes, I still thing google & moto are STUPID for calling an android based device 'droid' since duh, everyone is going to shorten it to 'droid' since sci-fi has been shortening it to that for 50 years durrrrr), are the Evo 4g, and the Dell Streak.
Other than that, meh. I'm also hoping that one of those devices gets froyo soon. |

| size of the screen, speed, expandability, etc. Dell claims froyo support in september. *shrug*
I don't want a phone if it's not significantly bigger than an iphone at this point, because the larger screen is the 'killer app' for me. I would like something that sits between an ipad and an iphone and the streak (and to a lesser extent the evo4g) fit that gap pretty well in theory. |
