No iPod Classic of any generation, no iPod Touch of any generation, only the ancient 2G Nano, and a couple even more ancient models. So saying your average iPod would work with that special firmware would be incorrect. I doubt many people still regularly use a 2G Nano, much less want one. If playing .ogg files on an iPod requires me to buy an outdated, used iPod that has a tiny screen, I'm out. And I say used because Apple discontinued that generation many, many years ago. |

| You were reading the unstable ports. Quote: |
Apple: iPod 1g through 5.5g, iPod Mini and iPod Nano 1g
| So yes, all iPod classics before the 6th generation, the iPod mini, and the first two iPod nanos |

| Ok, so you can use a 4 year old iPod Classic, great, that changes everything. Just like with the 2G Nano, I don't think many people if any use one of those anymore. And the 5G classic is the latest on that list that has a stable release (2G Nano also released same time). And it's already an old, outdated PMP, so very few people would be using a 5G Classic, much less an iPod Mini of any generation.
My original statement remains, it's not worth buying an outdated, used, no longer supported iPod in order to simply get .ogg support. Both the iPod Classic 5G and the iPod Nano 2G fit that bill, only the Nano has the extra disadvantage of having a tiny screen. |

| Hey, I still use a mini, and I know lots of people who use older iPods. If you have a perfectly working iPod that fits your needs (storage, screen, etc.) Why upgrade just because Apple says you should?
Also Rockbox works on most Sansa, Cowon, and other players. |

| All I'm saying is only old, discontinued iPods support Rockbox, so a majority on people (including me) won't be able to use Rockbox, because everyone (not everyone, but you know what I mean) uses the latest iPods these days. Especially because Apple obviously wants people to upgrade every year.
Even if I currently owned a 5G classic, it still wouldn't be worth using an old, scratched up MP3 player that just has dated written all over it. |
