| Let's see--5 favorite?
As of this exact moment-(Could change just after I post this--or not)
Not in any particular order
1-Glenn Kaiser
2-Christopher Parkening
3-Jeff Beck
4-Albert King
5-Hound Dog Taylor
5 most influential to my playing?
2 from the list above
1-Glenn Kaiser
2-Albert King
Plus-
3-Neil Young
4-Ritchie Blackmore (Kind of)
5-Jon Lord (okay he's not a guitarist, but his keyboard playing influenced my guitar playing more than Blackmore did
I don't know what you would be able to pick out from these influences--except for some Albert King phrases played imperfectly--and unison bends like Neil Young uses--and some one note soo stuff here & there.

| I don't mean this in a bad, flaming sort of way, but why do people list Jack White as one of the top five most influential guitarist of all time? He hasn't really been around long to develop that sort of reputation. Whereas Albert King, The Edge and Jeff Beck have.

| Similar to the other thread.
Matt Weed
The dudes from Explosions in the Sky
Jeff Boyle
Kurt Ballou
A bunch of guys from local bands, all of whom I guess would be influenced by Minus the Bear, Built to Spill, Hot Cross, etc. |

| I can only call you one player who has a significant influence on my playing:
Tommy Emmanuel
For me he is my most favourite player too. I love his fingerpicking pieces most. When i watched a video of him on youtube for the first time, i was so enthousiast that i started practising my fingerpicking/travispicking skills immediately. His skills encourages me to go on practising my skills. And i love the style. |

| But if Jack White influenced someone in particular, they could legitimately list him.
Due to the time frame he may not have yet had a large influence on guitar overall, but he may have had a huge impact on a specific guitar player.
Not me, but it is possible.

I thought it was about listing who you though were the top five most influential guitarists of all time, not the top five who influenced you in particular. Quote:

| Me neither, but I think it's very likely that he could have a considerable impact on the next generation of players. Just not yet. lol

Not me, but it is possible. | I remember back in the days of AM radio and vinyl records there were some guys who immediately had a profound effect on guitarists. As soon as Led Zepplin I came out everyone knew things were different. Jimi Hendrix did that to people as well. The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, The Byrds; as soon as they hit the airwaves people started changing. Then it happened again when Eddie Van Halen hit the scene. So yeah, of course Jack White could be having a similar influence. I doubt that it's as noticeable as it was then but he's probably having some influence. |

| The five guitarists who have influenced me the most are:
1) Greg Brown… The mate that taught me the important things about tone… like tube amps. We sometimes call him "the gredge" because of the influence of the next guy in his playing.
2) The Edge… Both directly and through several of these others..
3) Bruce Conlon… Guitarist from kiwi worship band Form and rock band Eight
4) Jeff Bellew/Ryan Dennee from Stavesacre… And if I'm really honest, mishearing Dirk Lemnenes's bass lines as guitar riffs.
5) Stu G… His guitar playing makes me Delirious! not really, but I couldn't resist the pun, and it's a huge influence on how I think guitars can (should?) sound in church songs.
These are the people I try (usually unsuccessfully) to sound somewhat like when playing and who's songs I normally end up mucking around with snippets of when I'm noodlng at at home.
I enjoy listening to all their work too.. I'm not sure if I'd call them all favourites, but maybe. |

| The Five guys who influenced me the most.
Gary Richrath (who??)
Billy Gibbons (pinch harmonics, hybrid picking)
Gary Rosington (pentatonic major)
K.K. Downing (Melody)
Robert Johnson (32 ways to play in open E)
Not Edge, I am a guitar player, not a delay programmer.
Ritchie Blackmore (Classical woven into Rock, Major Scales)
Like I said, I am a guitar player not a math major. |

I concur! Influences do not equal favourites -having said that I don't dislike ALL my heaviest influences -some I really love -they just don't make top 5 Most influential: -David Holmes (one of the top players in Australia -and my last guitar teacher) -Joe Satriani (or most people in a guitar shop tell me...) -Steve Vai (sigh.... these days its against my will) -John Petrucci (which I don't mind) -Steve Lukather (most recently) Current Favourites: -Steve Lukather -Greg Howe -Eric Johnson -Saki Kaskas -The guy who did all the guitar work in the music for the Need For Speed 1 and 2 -"Bulb" -totally check out "Breeze" on his myspace!
