But that's a legal issue as well. Certainly fast food is not equivalent of Alcohol or Tobacco!

| I wasn't trying to make an apple to apple comparison with tobacco and fast food. I was just pointing out that it's not unprecedented for the courts to see a need to step in and hold corporations and marketing firms to some standards. I could also point out that in places I have lived the tone of the 1-900 chat line/soft porn adds changes drastically after a certain time ( I think 11pm) which is just another example of marketers being forced to meet certain standards. |

| But again, you're talking about something that is legally set for an older audience. Children calling a sex line or seeing porn is regulated by law. Food isn't. Fast Food is not a controlled substance and fast food is not something that will inherently ruin a child's life. Anything, literally anything in excess is bad. I've known parents who's kids failed school because they watched too much TV or played outside too much. That's on the parents, not the child. The answer to childhood obesity is NOT banning fast food, it's kicking stupid parents in the seat of their pants.

| From MacDonald's standpoint--it's marketing--and it seems to work quite well.
As has been pointed out--parents can say no.
Kids may not have the discernment needed, but the parents should.

| I'm not arguing that tobacco is the same as fast food. My point is that both products are linked to serious public health issues in America. My goodness, I don't want to ban either of them. I just question what we owe one another as people, not just as business and consumer. The buck stops with the parents but that doesn't mean no one else has responsibilities.

| I agree that if the parents can't say "No" now, imagine the problems that will create in 5-10 years. Extremely bad parenting. |

| the fact is, 4 chicken nuggets, some slices of apple and a container of milk or juice are pretty decent, and if you're concerned about sugar you can just skip the dippin' sauce for the apples.
It's all about what parents want to give their kids, and as one of the commenters on that article put it: Quote:
Are the toys in your child's Happy Meal making him fat?
No trying to be your kids friend is. Its time to be a parent and say NO
| People need to grow up and not wait for everyone to babysit them when they're freaking adults. |
