They've got the cap space, but I'm not sure he fits into their style of play too well. And we all saw how well Kovalchuk integrates into a new system.

Sharks go from Nabokov to Nittymaki? I think they are going to have a harder time than they think.

He costs a lot less. Like, $4MM a year less. And his numbers aren't too bad.

I know he is a lot less money, that's obviously why they signed him, but I really don't think he has anything in Nabokov. Of course he will be playing for a very skilled team, so that will help.

Yes, they are obviously losing a lot when they give up Nabokov. He's an elite goaltender. Here's the thing, though. They are not quite getting it done with Nabokov, and if they kept him, they would have lost other pieces. They were able to keep Marleau and Pavelski, though they did lose Malhotra. Anyhow, this also gives them a chance to replace Rob Blake, maybe with someone younger and faster.

I am optimistic about this move. Cautiously optimistic, but optimistic. Nittymaki has a GAA under 3, and a save percentage over .90.

The Canucks signed Mason Raymond today without going to arbitration. The contract's at a friendly $2.55 million cap hit. This makes me happy.

Also among things that make me happy: making fun of poorly reasoned letters to the editor of The Hockey News.

Frolov to the Rangers? Honestly, they think a perennial underachiever will get better with them?

Glen Sather has no idea how to run a hockey team. I firmly believe this. First the Boogaard deal and then Frolov. It's pretty ridiculous. Some of his other deals weren't too bad (the Biron signing is solid) and Frolov might work out (but it's doubtful), but the Boogaard signing is indicative of someone who has no idea what he's doing.
