Xbox 360 Kinect

So what do you guys think? I think it's an awesome idea, but will it hold up to its promises?

At least with the PS Move you can still use your PS3.. i think you have to buy a whole new Xbox to use the Kinect.

hmm, i got rid of my wii, why on earth would i want another more expensive one. i got bored with the wii after finishing zelda, and that game is better on the gamecube anyway. now theres a system i still play all the time, and love it. but this new xbox seems pointless when i have an xbox already...

They said that Kinect will be compatable with all current 360s too, they're just eventually going to bring out a model that has Kinect built in as well.

Most of those Kinect demonstrations reminded me a lot of Wii Fit and, more specifically, why I rarely pull out Wii Fit anymore- moving your body for a long period of time is exhausting. I just can't see people playing a game that utilizes your entire body for very long at all. I mean, you still have people who complain about having to move their arms for Wii games.

Plus the software looked pretty subpar anyway. I didn't buy that shovelware when it was on the Wii, why on earth would I want it in HD?

No, the New Xbox 360 (note the capitalization. That's actually what MS is calling it), has one port for communication with Kinect and power to Kinect. With the Xbox 360 Original (again, capitalization), you'll have to plug one cable from Kinect into USB and one into the wall.

It looks interesting, kinda fun, but I don't think I'd say its worth $150....maybe like $60 I'd consider it, maybe.

Bumping this since it has been a while and some have probably actually acquired the Kinect.

For those that have: what do you think of it? Are the games worthwhile? Do you foresee more games coming that mat pique your interest? Do you enjoy using it?

My wife decided to use her Christmas money on the Kinect. We bought Just Dance 3. After playing this game and the game that comes with the hardware I have to say that I am pretty impressed. I think it does a good job of mostly translating my movements. It isn't perfect, bit it is what you would expect, and I imagine there will be patches and things in the future for improvement (I guess, Idk). As for games, I am hoping there will be soon a better variety. I heard you can play Mass Effect 3 using the Kinect, but I don't know how true that is. Also, there is a Halo game. Not sure how good it is.

My daughter has had Kinect for a while now, and she raves about Dance Central 2. Super fun...
I just got a new Xbox 360 and Kinect. While I play Battlefield 3 and just got MW3, and don't have much use for the Kinect, My wife got "Your Shape : Fitness Evolved 2012" We'll see how much she likes it. It looks very interesting.
As far as why should someone get a Kinect when they have a Wii, that's simple. High Definition. The graphics on the Wii are as good as it's going to get, as the bits are already maxed out. The Graphics alone should make it no-contest, but the hands-free Kinect operation is a big plus.
As a first person gamer, the Kinect is a little inaccurate for my taste. But for the interactive genre of games it is the bom...

Also, it is a much different experience than using the Wii. Much much different. It sees your whole body!

I have a friend who got Just Dance 3 and we play it a bunch. It's a ton of fun. It seems like it does a really good job at recognizing your movements and is just a well made game.

I'm not sure how compatible it is with games that aren't that style, like FPS's, and how compatible it could ever be, but from what I've played, it seems like a great device. Based on what I play, sports games, FPS's, it's not really for me, but I would still definitely reccomend it.

Apparently there has been an FPS released called Blackwater, but it has received overwhelmingly negative reviews. I am not sure whether it is the difficulty of using the Kinect for that genre, or for other reasons.
