Great advise from everyone. I am learning alot recently. And i'm reading the "fretboard roadmaps" book right now.
It's really humorous to me that the advice seems to build... and i guess that is what makes learning guitar an ongoing study. Like: "just learn the major/minor chords", "oh and the pentatonic", "yeah and the inverted scale", "oh and dont forget the shapes", and "learn the fretboard"....

But i guess like other subjects, there are levels of how deep you can take art.
I do love to learn, love the guitar, and love jesus.

Like any creative thing, the learning really never ends.

The way that I learned was by learning a couple scales, primarily the major scale and a few different patterns of it, and then playing it to a rhythm guitar part. I use a loop pedal all the time for that, or you could record a part over and over on your computer, get a friend to play it, play along with a song... etc.

Practice helps so much more than head knowledge for learning to solo. I hit a wall for quite awhile with knowing HOW to solo, but not being able to do it in a way that sounded at all good.
