| Preventing Pregnancy I have a question about the prevention of pregnancy...
Is it right? It always seemed to me that since ending a life through abortion is wrong, should stopping a potential life from ever beginning be considered wrong too?
Just thinking out loud, and looking for an answer
Thanks! |

Some people see no problem with non-abortive birth control
Others have a problem with birth control and condoms.
The Bible doesn't really address the issue directly. So when people debate the issue they usually look to passages which speak of children being a blessing. |

| OT: His sin was trying to defraud his brothers of their rightful inheritance.
I'm a single gal, so I don't know if I should even weigh in on this. I don't think that Birth Control is inherently wrong. Since I believe life begins at conception, for me abortive means are wrong. But stopping conception in the first place is not wrong.
But as Sean says, the Bible doesn't address it specifically. So I guess you have to take what you know of God's Word as a whole and do what you can live with in good conscience. |

| Doesn't that imply that the only reason for sex is to get pregnant? I don't think so, and I think Scripture supports that view. |

| In marriage sex is for procreation and pleasure (1 Corinthians 7). My wife and I are waiting to have kids since we are still trying to get our degrees in school and get better jobs. We use the only two non-abortive birth controls we know of: condoms and a copper IUD. If we get pregnant, we get pregnant, and we will look at the baby as a gift from God
We don't view preventing pregnancy as a sin, but we do view any birth control as sin if it aborts the baby if conception takes place. |

We don't view preventing pregnancy as a sin, but we do view any birth control as sin if it aborts the baby if conception takes place. | I think this is an important point that needs to be stressed. Not everyone here is going to see eye to eye on the abortion/when-does-life-begin issue, but if it is going to be an issue for a couple you should carefully examine birth control methods. Before we were trying to get pregnant we only chose birth control that would prevent fertilization, not implantation. Copper IUDs for example damage/kill sperm (though we didn't go that route because there was still a small chance that fertilization could take place and not be able to implant). Most of the pills I know of stop ovulation but still allow for implantation/fertilization if an eggs is released, though can lead to complications. Etc. You gotta talk with your husband/wife and figure out what's the right way for you. I know of at least one couple that had excellent results with the rhythm method. The first time they broke the method they got pregnant.
However, recent experience has taught me that if God wants to bless you with children, it's gonna happen.
