| My wife had a routine appointment on Tuesday that turned into a big mess. She became preeclamptic and we had to induce yesterday, eventually had a csection. He's about a month early, but he's exceeding the doctors expectations. Breathing good, went right to nursing...vigorously. He has trouble keeping his temp up, but doc says it's nothing too serious to worry about. God is great! I have a son. Samuel Eli Nichols 5lbs 12 oz.
He shares a birthday with Brittany Spears and Harry Reid.

| I saw the pictures on facebook of the newest SBN. Nice. I'm glad your wife and son are OK. I'm also glad you went with Samuel Eli and not Cleatus. Any idea how long the hospital stay will be? It actually sounds and looks like he's really healthy for being a month early. You are right, God is good. |

Can I just say as a first time experiance....csections, wow. Crazy. What made it all awesome...two doctors working on her (our doc and another) talking about completely mundane things...football, TV, food....

| Thanks Bill. We think he's awesome. I'm finally rested. Jen's mom stayed the night with her at the hospital so I could get some sleep. Seriously, that first night was tough. I have absolutely -zero- infant experience. That's not an exaggeration. After the csection my wife was alert, but completely immobile. I was exhausted. After the family left, it was just me and the baby. Jenn would talk me through stuff, but it was obvious I had never changed a diaper or swaddled a baby. The nursing staff would come in, smirk at me, then redo it every time.
Someone in another forum brought up the name....it's an interesting story...
Jenn has taken great solace in the story from 1 Samuel chapter 1 during our infertility struggles. Hannah's Hope. Of course I knew the story, but for me it was just just another story. The weekend she found out she was pregnant I was out of town on a men's retreat for the church, and she was waiting for me to get home to tell me. On the last night of that retreat I went off by myself and just opened my bible, looking for nothing in particular, and went straight to 1 Samuel, chapter 1. After reading the chapter I just fell apart, completely in tears, for like 15 minutes. And then a great peace fell on me and somehow, I just knew we'd have a child soon. I never really suspected we were already pregnant. The next day when she told me, I almost immediately said (without knowing it was a boy, obviously), "his name is going to be Samuel." And she said, "I know." Pretty cool how God works.
Eli was just a natural extension of that for us. In retrospect, it sounds a wee bit Amish, but we love it.
