Without being able to work with you one on one it’s hard to give any advice. Don’t think “Frisbee” when you’re throwing these discs. It’s a totally different technique. One of the great things about this sport is the people are (usually) really great and will want to teach you everything they know. Once you get out on the courses keep your eyes open for someone that looks like they know what they’re doing and approach them. Tell them you’re just getting started and would like some tips and they’ll most likely take you under their wing.
There are a LOT of online disc stores. I never buy discs (I’m sponsored) so I don’t know which stores are the cheapest. There are some sets you can pick up that are decent but I would stay AWAY from sets by Wham-o or Aerobie. Wham-o makes GREAT Frisbees and Aerobie makes GREAT novelty fliers but neither company makes good discs. I would recommend Innova and Discraft (I throw Innova exclusively).
If you’ll PM me your address (and pay for the shipping) I’ll gladly send you a driver, putter, and mid-range disc to get you started. I can’t imagine shipping being more than $10 and you’ll receive about $45 worth of plastic.
