Help with song

can any of you help me? i am trying to learn 'there will be a day' by 'jeremy camp' for a talent show my church is doing and when i do the guitar on it's own or the singing on it's own i do fine but when i try to put them together my rhythm is off and my singing stinks i feel like im trying to play with all thumbs, is it just a lack of practice? or can you give me some advice?

In my experience it's just a lack of practice. One way I overcome it, if I'm not already playing along with the track, is I play the rhythm a bit first and then start singing.

At any rate, don't get down about it. Doing both at the same time is tricky.
