Talking Looking for music with notes

I'm looking for songs with notes for bass instead of tabs. I'm still learning to read tabs, but like to know the notes behind it. Any suggestions ?

well, pluck a string on your bass. That's a note.
Tab is just another way of expressing notes.
thus, (I might be off here):
E-------------5
B--------------
G---------------
D---------------

Is an A.

Now, I believe you're looking for sheet music?

Buying printed music is expensive. Try second hand stores, charity shops and even yard and rummage sales. Also if you see an ad for someone selling an instrument, that person may have sheet music that they feel is not worth selling, so make an enquiry with them. It may take some time to accumulate it, but it sure says money. Also check your local library. Avoid piano scores as they can complicate things with double notations, especially for a learner.

I started practicing my notes by getting an old hymnal which my church no longer uses. It cost nothing and I knew many of the songs, which helped me work out the notes.

How do you get a guitar player to stop playing? Put sheet music in front of him.

Seriously, you can get free sheet music at worshiptogether.com.

Is there something in particular you want to learn, or is it just so you can learn to read?

Another good site

Try smallchurchmusic.com for traditional hymns. The scores are generally easy and its not difficult to find familiar material.

If you can't find sheet music. Chord sheets work very well. I prefer them over tabs.

Rhtyhm charts are great. Are hear you though bro! I recently had a gig were musical notation was required and I am so rusty as 98% of church stuff does not require it. I would love to maintain site reading as well. The guy who put together the orchestral concert may know where to get more songs with that notation. Maybe I will see if he can get some more.

I have trouble playing off tabs - not going to lie. I use sheet music and sometimes just chords listed.
