not just suspect. I'd try disabling programs via windows defender on startup. My first suspects would be hp programs...

When my laptop first started running hot, it turned out to be two things. The primary reason was an unbelievable amount of dust in the fan, but it wouldn't have made a difference without the really intense programs running. It hated flash a lot then.

Install the HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection driver off the HP website. It is basically a glorified ACPI driver which regulates power and cool.

I also would suspect HP bloatware.

Oh, actually, come to think of it, considering what y'all are saying, I misunderstood.

I did in fact do a clean install of the OS. I don't have any HP programs on there.

I just didn't format the drive to do it. The OS itself is fresh, no carryover HP software at all.

If that is the case, I would try surferdudes suggestion. I'd still look at what was starting via windows defender though.
