We got there around 1PM so the main sanctuary ("worship center") had been locked up already. The rest of the building was pretty much open and we did step into the chapel to listen to about half a song from their Spanish service. I'm sure if we were able to find somebody in charge we could have gone into the sanctuary, but the guest information booths were all empty.

I actually find it pretty amazing that a congregation as big as that can clear out and all the doors can get locked up before 1pm. We struggle to get 90 people out and lock up before 1. The church I attended in Florida averaged 1100 and I often wouldn't get out of there until 1:30.

Maybe that's why they have Sunday brunch, so they can get everyone out of the worship center and into another part of the building. Haha

Has anyone read Les Miserables?
All I can think about when I read this is Monseingeur Bienvenu and his decision to switch buildings with the hospital. That man is my epitome of how Christians should all strive to live.

You know, there is a reason the church is still despised in many parts of europe and it's this type of lavish overindulgence while there are people right there in the community suffering. At the time of the French revolution the church clergy were making salaries of 15,000 + franks a year and lived in mansions while the average person in their parish was struggling to pay 12 sous for a loaf of bread to feed their families and couldn't afford to have a window in their house because of the taxes on them.

This seems like a huge waste of money to me. $115mm on a building? Really? Feel like there is a lot more good that could be done with that money than building new building for an existing church. They could plant dozens of churches with that. I don't have an issue with a church constructing a new building, but there are limits to what I consider reasonable.
My church has about 4k people every week just at our campus... we didn't spend quite that on our building but it was close.

I think we're good on the biblical basis of 'questioning biblical leaders topic' as its gotten out of context of the church building. If you want to discuss it more go nuts with a new thread in Theology. Cheers.
