I stand corrected. Meet the Feebles will be studied centuries from now as the Iliad of the 20th century.

Terry Gilliam.

Loved Brothers Grimm. Absolutely loved it.

Tideland. Loved so many of the ideas of this movie, but it never moved beyond just being creepy.

Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. Another great idea movie that never moved beyond being creepy.

Basically with Gilliam, he's a master of creating surreal landscapes to place his movies in. He's not afraid of using crazy premises for his movies and trying to pull them off. Most of his movies are very fun to look at, but not to watch. What I mean by that is that they are visually pleasing, but any time he actually has to have his actors speak or interact with each other.....it just comes across terribly flat. People don't behave like normal humans do in his movies. Every movie of his gets me really excited with its idea, but (with the exception of The Brothers Grimm) always leaves me feeling deflated.

And I must be honest, even the Brothers Grimm has some horrible interactions between its characters, but the action, visuals, and overall fun of the movie compensate for it.

What do you think of Brazil or 12 Monkeys? Those are the only Gilliam movies I've seen and I thought they were pretty rad.

Oh, and to comment on a post from the first page. I disagree with Wes Anderson being a terrible director.

I can accept someone not liking his movies, but for what he tries to accomplish, he does a fantastic job. In other words, hate the genre, not the player. I can totally get how someone could think they're terrible movies, but I love his ability to create caricatures of everyday subtle nuances. That's what he does. He takes common quirks in typical characters that other directors would spend the entire film trying to fully develop and just brings them right out into the open. BAM! All of a sudden you've got a family like the Tennenbaums or a washed up film diver seeking revenge upon a rare shark or any of his other characters.

However, to be fair, I couldn't even watch the Darjeeling Limited. Just giving my 2 cents.

Haven't seen Brazil. Read the plot, it seemed intriguing, but so have all of his movies.

Totally forgot about 12 Monkeys! Ok, chalk that one up with Brothers Grimm as likes in my book. But even still, I have no idea what inspires him to direct his dialogue in such a manner. None of it seems to flow naturally. Sort of like the way they talk on Gilmore Girls. Not the same style, but you can still tell that no one normal talks that way.
