Looking for a Church

Hey everyone, I'm fairly new to the forum, greetings everyone...anyways, lately I've been trying to find a church in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. I'm looking for a decently sized protestant church that's fairly contemporary in worship style. As far as my theological views, I agree mostly with some of the more "liberal" denominations (abortion is ok, homosexuality is ok, evolution is true, egalitarian's the way to go). I'm a college student right now, and would like a church with some kind of college/young adult ministry. I've tried looking on various church denomination websites (UCC, ELCA, MCC, UMC), but there's just too much to try and sift through. Any input on good churches or denominations would be greatly appreciated.

I gotta say, I've never been to a church in my life quite that "liberal".

I would recommend Bethlehem Baptist Church.

I'd have a hard time recommending a "Christian" church with those viewpoints, personally.

I've been to Bethlehem Baptist a few times. I don't think its exactly what I'm looking for, perhaps too steeped in "Reformed " theology. I guess I'm just looking for a place I won't be shunned and thrown out the door. That's kinda what's happened to me before. I'd like a church with more of an open mind, that acknowledges that Christians are split on these issues and accepts those who fall on either side.

So you want people who are tolerant of your views, but you don't have to be tolerant of their deeply held convictions. Nice. And fairly typical.

How liberal are you looking for? I might say Universal Unitarianism but that's so liberal I don't think it's Christian in any meaningful sense. The United Church of Christ is pretty danged liberal and I think they still affirm Christ as God-man, son of God, Messiah, etc.

Caveat: I don't personally recommend these churches but they might fit your description.

Hey listen, I didn't come here to get criticized and ripped apart. I've had too much of that in my life, and am earnestly seeking a church whose members don't look down on one another because they have differing theological views. I'd need a place that's more open-minded and loves each other regardless of where they stand on these issues. They don't all have to agree with me, but I just want a place where they'll have at least a bit more understanding an acceptance than what I've witnessed.

Thanks, do you, or does anyone know of any good United Church of Christ churches in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area?

This would be better suited in the Regional Forums.

But that's exactly what you are doing. Pot, meet the kettle. I'm not tearing you apart, I don't even know you. I'm just observing. Take it for what it's worth.

If I were judging you, I'd have had a lot more to say than I did.

Sorry, I certainly didn't mean to come off that way. And I don't equate being "open minded" (granted, this might even be a bit ambiguous) with being "liberal" (again another somewhat unclear term). Sorry if I communicated that the two are synonymous.

Maybe the regional forum is best for this question; I'll try my luck there. Thanks for the input anyways everyone.

Bobbi, you're nice a lot of the time, but goodness gracious, you know how to be a troll. Just stop.
