Cover songs on a "donation" album

I recorded a coffee house gig that my buddy and I did, and I was going to put them on a CD and give them away, but also accept donations for the missions trip coming up. Some of the songs were cover songs (actually, quite a few). If we aren't technically selling the CD, but are accepting donations towards the ministry for giving the CD to someone, is that kosher? Or do I need to email Stephen Delopoulos and ask him if I can put my crappy versions of his songs on a CD?

I assume these are just burned discs? No packaging, no uploading on a website? If it's that lo-fi and not being sold, I'm sure you're fine.

Honestly...I'm not sure.

It sounds kosher...but I know that copyright and licensing laws can be tricky.

Burned CDs. I did make a "cover" for them, but it's just the flier from the event and who's on the disc. I know I'm probably not going to have the feds coming at my door, and I can probably fly under the radar, but it's for a ministry, and I'd like to keep things as right on as possible.

What if one were to just distribute it without donations involved? Would I be fine doing it that way? We had a few people ask for a recording of the night.

I think you're good as long as you're not "selling" them. Taking donations is fine I think.

Tenwatt says it's OK. That's good enough in my book.
