Daisy Chaining Routers

So....

Today I switched to AT&T Uverse from comcrap. I'm having a few issues...

The setup:
I live in a guest house that is disconnected from the main house at my address, which is my aunt's house.

There is a driveway between us.

I have a CatV line run in a burried conduit from her house to mine.

I have 2 basic needs: I need fast internet for my comp. And my cell uses VoIP so I need wireless...

The wireless in my aunt's house, because of geography and the way this house is built does not reach my house.

The problem:
When I connect my computer straight into the Uverse Router that is integrated into the modem, I get BLAZING fast internet speeds, an A on the speetest.net ping test...

When I connect my wireless router (Linksys WRT54G Running DD-WRT) my speed is GREATLY reduced. I got a D on the pingtest.

AT&T customer support is no help and their firewall cannot be turned off.

So... I have my comp set as the DMZ on my router... should I set my router or my Comp as the DMZ on U-verse?

For future personal reference, what was the problem and how did you fix it?

Had my router still set to gateway mode.. had to set it up as router mode... and then set my own comp as DMZ host.

We tried range extenders so that our neighbor could use our internet. That was a disaster. They were never able get a strong signal (despite extenders that advertise blocks of distance, etc) and our personal connection suffered greatly. And VOIP takes a lot out of our speed as well (I can't talk on the phone if I'm downloading something).
