Dano Transparent overdrive

I have read a lot about these, and how they are a Tim/Timmy clone. Apparently the first version was too close to the original Tim/Timmy so they had to change it, so now the originals are getting hard to find and are costing more.

Today I sold my old vox valvetronix amp to a whim buy from a guy from craigslist, so I had a little extra money to spend (whenever I sell guitar gear it is usually just to replace it with other gear). I found one of the old Transparent overdrives on ebay for $50+free shipping so I decided to nab it really quick thinking if I don't like it at the very least I can probably sell it for more than I paid for it. It should be here by next Monday and I'm pretty stoked for it. If I like it, I'll most likely keep it and if I don't like it, more money for me eh?

I have pretty high hopes for it as the sound clips on youtube are sounding good, as well the reviews are pretty good. I'll let yall know when I get it.

I have one. Decent pedal for the money. I don't really have any issues with it. I just have things that sound better to put on my board. It does mix very well with other drives though. Gives a nice boost, and some top end bite.

Are they really going for that much right now? May have to sell......

I'm glad to hear they combine well with others. I have a feeling I am going to end up liking this and not want to sell it.

the older ones were straight up timmy knockoffs. They've since made some changes...after being found out.

That's the one I bought and I'm glad, as in side by side demo's I think it sounds a LOT better than the new one.

These are nice pedals. I'm rehousing one in the same box as a Drive for a friend at the moment.

is there some way of telling, just by looking, whether you've got an original or a 2nd version?

Probably, but I have no idea how. Sometimes you can find a date stamped on the pcb....

the stickers are different on the pedals. and the first one is the cto-1, V2 is the cto-2.

^^

Which is probably a lot easier than ripping the pcb out to find a date that's probably not even there.

Very yes. The old sticker is white and the new one is black.

well IIRC, the v1 does not have dip switches on the pcb, while the v2 does. So the board should be a dead giveaway too.

It came today! Wooooow. I borrowed my friends Tim and I put them side by side. They really do sound a lot alike. I honestly like the TOD better actually. It has a bit more of a mid hump ("transparent" overdrive?) which actually sounds really, really good. I'm pretty sure this is going to take the place of what I used to use the overdrive side of the J&H for. This thing sounds really, really good. I don't think I'll be able to get myself to sell it .
