Fuzzes are notoriously temperamental beasts and highly sensitive to slight changes. My guess is the amount of charge on a battery could make an audible difference. I doubt brand would matter, but I know this. I like my leeds fuzz eric built and I am going to leave my fuzz alone there for the most part.
When I was using a Boss: Distortion DS-1 I actually like it's tone better when the battery wasn't new. I just thought it sounder better. I have to say the worst tone sucking pedal I had was a late 80's-early 90's Ibanez: Chorus pedal, that pedal would compleatly change your tone but when engaged it sounded really good. Now all of my EFX are Dunlop and MXR. Sorry to go off topic but the battery thing just made me go that can't be true.

It's here it's here it's here! I can't test it till after a few more classes though. This is always the hardest part.

I finally got to sit down and play with it.

Overall impression: for $25+shipping, I made the right choice to nab this. It is my first fuzz-style pedal and it really gave me the sound I've been wanting (that nasty fuzzy sound). I am not sure if it will have a permanent spot on my board, but it no doubt will be in use till my SBN pedal is finished . Even then I might try to use both. I didn't really notice very much tone suck at all. I am going to be doing some pedalboard re-doing and am excited to have this on there. If you want a muff-style sound for a just stupid cheap price, I highly suggest it.
