The Next Doctor

So, who do you think it will be? Or better yet, who do you WANT it to be?

Benedict Cumberbatch seems to fit the portrayal, but he's already too engrained as Sherlock Holmes.

There seems to be a concerted effort (on the internet) to get a female Doctor.

That would be interesting.

No way they go with Cumberbatch. They have a hard enough time getting him to do three Sherlock episodes once a decade around his movie schedule.

Richard Ayoade is my first choice. If they cast a woman, Olivia Colman or Hayley Atwell would be fun.

My dream choice would be Idris Elba (I also want him as James Bond FWIW).

I saw Parminder Nagra suggested in one article and think she would be very interesting in the role. The same article suggested Miranda Hart and I think she'd be really interesting in the role as well.

The cool think about the Doctor is he isn't bound by certain rules. I mean, they already broke the original rule about how many times he can regenerate. Anything goes.

Oh man...Ayoade would be amazing.

I really wanted to see Catherine Tate actually become the Doctor full time. I thought she was excellent as "Doctor Donna".

They could really play up the humor in this. I remember The Doctor adjusting to the physical changes his body made after each successful regeneration. Imagine what they can do with experiencing being female for the first time...playfully of course.

I hope 13's first line subverts that a little, and her first remark is "still not ginger! "

You might find this special starring Rowan Atkinson interesting in that regard. It's called "The Curse of Fatal Death".

I'm down for this. Hoping the writing gets better with Moffatt leaving, I stopped watching partway through Capaldis run because there was a lot of.... :S

I felt pretty "meh" about most of this season, despite liking the new companion, but the two-part finale was very good. I'm definitely ready for post-Moffat Doctor Who, though.

Yesssss! I'm not the biggest Doctor Who person and I have only seen bits and pieces, but a female Doctor is really exciting.
