| The Cove Using state-of-the-art equipment, a group of activists, led by renowned dolphin trainer Ric O'Barry, infiltrate a cove near Taijii, Japan to expose both a shocking instance of animal abuse and a serious threat to human health. (IMDB)
Anybody see this? We screened it last night at school and it was much more moving than I thought it would be.
****SPOILERS****
I've always thought that we should kind of leave the Japanese alone because I just assumed it is their culture to eat dolphin meat, just as our culture is to eat beef and chicken. However, I was really struck by how they pointed out that there is basically nothing good coming from killing the dolphins. It's bad for you to eat!? I did some mild sleuthing and I didn't find anything that strongly refutes the claims of the movie except that the two guys who didn't want their kids eating dolphins actually still support killing the dolphins and were mad at how they were made out in the film.
***** END SPOILERS****
I went into this expecting to see some silly animal rights activist documentary, but I was indeed moved by it. |
