The films of Hayao Miyazaki

There have to be some other Miyazaki fans here. I've re-visited a couple of his movies recently -- Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Ponyo -- and found that I consistently appreciate them more each time I see them. Ponyo isn't a masterpiece, but those first two in particular are extraordinary films. And his are some of the few anime movies that get solid English voice acting, so for those who get distracted by subtitles, the dubbed versions are wonderful as well.

My little sister is into Miyazaki's stuff so I watched Spirited Away and Caste in the Sky a few times when I was living at home. I've been interested in seeing Ponyo and I have yet to see Princess Mononoke (TBH, movies with the word "Princess" in the title I tend to steer away from.

That is probably the one exception...and I suspect I saw that movie before seeing the title.

Would it help if I told you that the Princess is actually the most bad@$$ character in the movie?

Ha...it probably would. I remember seeing previews for it when I was younger and just thinking it was some foofy Sailor Moon deal.

It's definitely not. Actually, it's far and away the most "manly" of any of Miyazaki's movies.
