Yes, but I figure I'd rather soil a new diaper (which I can throw away) than soil a changing pad or a towel or whatever else (which then needs to go in the wash).

You go through enough diapers without this. I already know that I am cheap. No need to say it. You can wipe a changing pad down just like you wipe the baby down. No need to put it is the wash. I also wouldn't use towels. I would buy some cloth diapers. They are very handy for everything except to use as a diaper.

Very rarely has the second diaper gotten soiled during the change. Also, I'm not using good towels for this. The towels I use are either old, or cheaper than going out and buying cloth diapers.

You're right, you can wipe the pad down. I actually meant the pad cover.

Either way, whatever technique you use, you want to keep something nearby in case your kid starts taking care of business while they're still on the table and not locked into a diaper.
