| Genealogies. The farthest back i can trace my geneology on both sides of my family is to somewhere in the mid 1800's.
But i was wanting to try and trace all the way back to when my ancestors first immigrated from ireland and scottland.
Any ideas?

Any ideas? | I stalk dead people all the time, it's one of my favorite hobbies. I can help you, but you have to promise to learn to spell genealogy correctly. Shoot me a PM. |

| Well, I've traced on my father's side back to the late 1500's. It wasn't easy. That last ancestor was like winning a prize. I found a Jeaneological Society in my area that helped a lot. Also found that the president there was related to me through our great great grandfathers. You have to do a lot of research and a lot of reading. Old books, newspapers, historical documents, census, etc. MtlMom will probally tell you all of this though. I sort of lost interest after my daughter died. I was gathering the information for her. I don't think my sons will be interested but who knows. I have a grandchild coming soon. Maybe.?.!.?
Good luck with your search. |

| I traced my lineage all the way back to when my ancestors left from their homeland for distant shores...
It was about 35 years ago. |

Good luck with your search. | That's pretty much it, yes. My plan is to help Andrew find a relative who has already done all the research for him!
The internet has made the research so much easier. When I first got started, about 30 years ago, I had to send off to county offices and pay a lot of money for copies of stuff that's available online now. Don't get me started on microfiche! |

| I know I'm a true 14th generation Virginian; my ancestors came over on the second trip to the "new world." As for before that... I'm an illegitimate heir to the English throne. A great-great-etc. grandfather was the product of King James I and one of his mistresses. Needless to say they changed the last name to cover it up.

I work at a library and even the genealogical society that volunteers there on weekends butchers the spelling. Speaking of which, hit up your local library. You'd be surprised how many programs they might have (depending on the size of your town) that can help you track down your ancestors. |

| My grandmother on my mother's side has been tracing hers. I traced my dad's mother's family all the way back to when they came to America in 1738. My great x 8 Grandfather was Frederick Hambright I can't find much prior to that though.
