10 - Amazing CD. Everyone should own it.
09 - Among the best of the year.
08 - One of the top CDs around, but could have been improved in a few places.
07 - Not a bad CD, but could have been better in a number of places.
06 - Pretty good for it's genre, but overall it's only acceptable.
05 - Decent CD, but only if you're a big fan of this genre.
04 - If you love this band, you'll like this CD. Otherwise, probably not.
03 - If you're a fan of this genre, the CD is barely acceptable.
02 - If you're a big fan of this band, this CD is tolerable.
01 - Even if you like this band, you won't like this CD.

| I wish this band could progress in a better way, not a slower way. The first album had great screaming and the verses were absolutely fantastic. They were brutally fast and lyrically awesome. As time has past it seems that lyrically the songs get shorter, combined with the standard song structure that they follow (2 or 3 screamed verses and a heavily repeated chorus, minus the 2-3 slow songs per album), that any progression they have had is not for the better. His screaming has declined a bit, and I think he knows that so he doesn't less of it. I like this cd but as I said in the other thread it just seems so repetitive so fast. I give it a 7 but I'm not really sure it deserves such a high rating.

| I gave it a six - slightly above average but not groundbreaking. I found their second and third albums to be much more revolutionary, setting modern metal at a different level. they typically cover a lot of ground - great riff-driven music, harsh barking vocals, with that surprising twist of introspective clean melody. not a lot of metal albums out there that you can actually sing along with or get the melody (not riff, I'm saying melody) stuck in your head. this isn't a review for Summer of Darkness or Triptych - but sadly this album doesn't IMO achieve the breakout success of either of those great albums.
average album from a great band. I gave it a six. |

| I really despise Lifewar. Like so much. And that's bad because it's the second song on here. |

| I gave it a 7, more accurately I give it around a 6.5. Not a bad album by any means, just not as good as most of their other stuff. It does have some pretty good songs, like Collapsing, Tie This Around Your Neck, and maybe Just Breathe, but the album as a whole is not amazing.
Here's a list of all of Demon Hunter's studio albums listed from best to worst based on my opinion. Also keep in mind that I've thoroughly listened to all their albums and I'm a big fan, so my opinion isn't just from listening to samples on Amazon or something.
1. Summer Of Darkness
2. The Triptych/Self Titled (tie)
3. The Triptych/Self Titled (tie)
4. The World Is A Thorn
5. Storm The Gates Of Hell |

| I don't get the negativity surrounding this album...they stepped up on a technical standpoint. I love it. |
