MacBook Pro rumor thread.

So, what's everyone think of the rumors for i5/i7 processors in the new MacBook pros? I'm getting kinda anxious to get one, but waiting a month or so won't be a problem, as I currently have no job. :P Anyone heard anything interesting?

Rumor: Core i7 Coming Soon to MacBook Pro? - PCWorld

I hadn't heard about it, but when I saw this thread I found this article. It will be great if actually happens.

I don't doubt i5 and i7s coming to the MBPs, I'm just wondering if that'll be it, and when it's going to happen already..

I'm most likely going to get the 15" i5. Just need to finagle some financing, hopefully within the next couple weeks.

Check out the review from Engadget - MacBook Pro Core i7 review -- Engadget

From the review:

"The other major problem we've had with previous generations of the unibody MacBook Pros is the use of the bottom plate as a secondary heat sink of sorts -- which turns our lap into a tertiary heat sink in the process. Happily we can say the situation has been much improved in the new version, at least in average use, though it's still possible to get the machine to uncomfortable temperatures with a little bit of effort. Sure, it's nice that there's hardly any fan noise ever, but at some point the laptop becomes hot on top as well, causing our left palm and wrist to sweat -- we'd say that's as good a time as any for the fan to kick into gear."

Yeah, the subject of cash seems to come up often when anything Apple is in discussion.

Just thought I'd mention that I just ordered the 15" MBP and decided to upgrade to the i7 version. I'm having it shipped to my friend's place in Oregon because I'm planning on visiting there in about 11 days and there's no sales tax (gotta save money however I can). So I will give my impressions once it's finally in my possession.

It's a $200 upgrade from the midrange model, not that bad.

The midrange seems like the worst one to pick. Only a marginal speed bump and bigger hard drive for $200? Just go with the low end and replace the hard drive yourself if you need the space.

However, due to a lot of finagling and crafty hoops I jumped through, I'm basically only paying $100 to upgrade from the low end to the high end. And that's a much more significant upgrade and totally worth it. It's probably even worth the $400 difference normally, so definitely worth an extra $100.
