question about pearly gates pickup

how would a pearly gates PLUS sound in a epi les paul?

i know the regular pearly gates go good with les paul but how about the plus model?

This might give you some insight:

Everything Else - What's the difference between your Pearly Gates pickup and the Pearly Gates Plus found on some Fender® guitars? - Seymour Duncan/Basslines

It sounds like the PG+ would do fine in an LP style guitar. However, there may be some spacing issues (Gibson's string spacing vs. Fender's spacing).

I know a lot of people swear the pole spacing issue is only cosmetic, but it didn't seem so to me. (I am guessing though that using gibson spacing on an f spaced is worse though)

Also... Before you go swapping pickups, the weak points on most epis are the pots and the switch. Especially the switch. I would replace that first before making other mods or at the same time.

well if i trade my strat for an epi les paul, i would have a pg+ lying around so i was wondering if i should try and sell that or if it might sound good in a lp. its not like i would just be buying pickups. i already have it

my thought is you'd be best off selling it, owing to the spacing issue. But no harm in trying it out really if you do the trade.

Though, if you do that, epi switches are cheap. They have a bad tendency to break. (and switches are not a pricey item.) Normally I wouldn't suggest fixing what wasn't broken, but Ive never met a well used epi without a replaced switch.

For the cost, I'd also throw a couple good pots in as well.

Personally, I tend to think this would be a lateral move at best. But I am a gibson guy to the core.

yeah i would def replace the pots and switches. and i could try the pickup, and if not i see them selling around 95 on ebay, i could put it up for like 80, or so and buy a better humbucker with that money if i didnt like the pg+

but am i "downgrading' by trading strat for lp? i like the lp tone better thats for sure
