buy produce in small quantities and schedule your grocery store trips for times you'll already be out. you waste less gas and you ensure that your produce is always as fresh as possible. =)

conversely, purchase non-perishables/dried goods in larger quantities if possible. I bought a 15 lb bag of rice in august and I'm still not even halfway through it. and I'm assyrian. we eat a lot of rice.

Eggs don't really cost a lot and are aweome and good for you (as long as you don't have problems with cholesterol)

Oat meal is also a great carbohydrate, easy to make and yet again pretty inexpensive

You'll snack on whatever you have available. If you buy healthy snacks you'll eat healthy. If you buy gut rot then well...

Tuna. You can add it to so many things to make a meal. Stock up when it's on sale - it doesn't take up much space in the cupboard.
