The size of the SA pedals is their only flaw. Fortunately for me, my bass effects needs are minimal. My future bass board looks to be:
Tuner -> SA EQ -> SA Flanger -> SA BEF -> DI
The placement of the jacks on the top of the pedal will allow them to fit more neatly into my pedal case than the pedals with side jacks.
Most of playing is straight up no effects, but I've done outboard compression, chorusing, and envelope filters. I also use a Sansamp Bass Driver as a D. I. and as a wonderful tone shaping device to juice up an average to below average sounding amp rig if the situation arises.
I put a 300Hz highpass out on my GK RB1001 bass head, and drive effects from that out, into a small guitar amp. I usually use chorus, octave up, distortion, echo, and sometimes a Leslie simulator, and a harmonizer. My basic bass rig stays untouched, and the effects come from the guitar amp.
I play in a 3 piece, and the effects sonically cover the holes.
