I know the highest I have seen out of a single was around 30 something in A.

But I was just meaning in terms of rule of theumb, in multitube a/b environments, class a, 50 watts is pretty much standard estimation.
Okay, that makes a lot more sense now. I thought you meant single tube as in literally single tube.

IS there a single-tube amp? I'm sure there is, but what purpose would there be in that?

Yes. Most little amps have a single power tube and a single Preamp tube.

I just regot my frenzel with one power, one preamp, and one rectifier tube, and its a little monster.

Keep in mind big high wattage amps aren't what every guitar player is looking for. Many many styles of music are well complimented tonally by a lower wattage, less efficient amp.

Or that a well made low wattage amp can be deafening on its own. The guy I redeemed my frenzel from thought there was some really powerful tube in there. (It can run a kt-88 among other things)It is a 6k6 putting out 3 watts, and it could cream most amps under 50 watts in clean headroom with it's measly 3. However, a good output transformer and a good design make it quite formidable.

I dare say it is louder than several lesser amps I owned in the 50 watt range easily. It can keep up with a drummer just fine.

If I throw my triple recstortion in front of it, it can put out a decent triple rectifier style distortion at ungodly volumes.

I like the fact that retubes are about $20 with NOS tubes...

Its really amazing how a good design and quality components have so much effect on an amps volume. I think that's one of the biggest things you notice when you start getting into really high quality amps. That and the low end response!
