Me seeing my grandfather off for the last time. Taken this afternoon. Grandpa was not just a war vet, but also a RCEME Rat. He joined the infantry when he was drafted in 1943, and after finishing his advanced infantry course, his OC found out that he has worked as a mechanic prior to his draft, and suggested that Grandpa volunteer for a new, experimental combat support arm called the Corps of Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Sixty years later, I followed that same path. I'm one of the only members of this branch who can claim lineage to a first-generation RCEME Rat.
