Jack White always intrigues me, he's an interesting fellow, and a great musician, I really like his music.

I'd say there's a difference between "simple" and "bad".

The Edge has found a style that works for him, which is a lot more than most guitarists, myself included, can say.

no simples not bad. dont get me wrong. simple music is great.

i didn't even say the edge was simple.

maybe i just personally dont like him, but it just seems that for any guitarist, if you need a rack of effects to sound good, your obviously not very good

But if you can get a huge rack of effects to sound good... that's some mad skill, too.

Heck, The Edge came up with some things with just a guitar, an EH Memory Man, and an AC30 that absolutely blow my mind. Like the riff to "Bad". Wowza.

The Edge happens to be one of my favorite guitarists. By the way.

I gotta agree... you disliking a particular style doesn't discredit a musician.

Yes, his style relys heavily on effects. That doesn't make him a bad player. I wish I could use effects half as good as he does.

Steve Lukather uses a rack of effects and dare I say that he'd smoke anyone on this board.
Same goes for Dann Huff and a bunch of other players.
Not that guitar playing is a contest or anything, despite people continuously trying to make it into one, but it's ignorance and immaturity that motivates opinions like yours.

I'm no fan of The Edge at all, but to claim that he's "not very good" is set oneself up for ridicule and public flogging.

I just want to know which effect he's talking about that makes a bad player into a good one. I'd just get a bunch of those and kick everyone's ass write some groovy tunes.

These are just a few:

Time distortion: Makes guitar solos seem longer.

Blame shifter: Shifts the pitch of mistakes down one octave so that the audience thinks it was the bass player.

EgoPlex: Makes you sound louder in your monitor mix.
