| If you want some catchy punk and or alternative stuff . . . MxPx Dogwood Slick Shoes Subseven Blindside (has some screaming, a lot more in the older stuff)

| I'll second MxPx- but only their older stuff. The new material is just way too polished for my taste. Pokinatcha, Teenage Politics, and Life in General are the bomb.

This negatively affected my tone in ways that I just can't describe.
Then, on a whim, a few years ago I wandered into a Bath and Body Works store at a local mall and picked up some of their gentle foaming anti-bacterial hand cleansers.
The difference in my guitar's sound is so wickedly improved that I no longer feel the need to buy a new amp or pedals or even strings...EVER!
So, it's my belief that tone is in the soap.
Thank you and goodnight. | |

They started going poppier, but it wasn't nearly as polished as what they did after. It's actually my favourite record from them.

On the other side of the coin, God has used people who don't follow him to speak the truth - remember the false prophet in the Old Testament who was hired to curse the people of Israel? Instead, God had him express what a blessed people they were.
Returning to the topic at hand...some of my favorite Christian bands are The Violet Burning (Faith and Devotions of a Satellite Heart is my all-time favorite worship album), Future of Forestry, Daniel Amos, and Derek Webb.

They do have some screamo in their work (especially on their older albums), but it's not like metal where it's constant. It's used in combination with singing for emphasis. And his scream is very unique, it sounds more like a desperate singing voice than like a death metal growl. I would suggest starting with The Artist in the Ambulance personally.

Seriously though, here's some of my favorite Christian bands.
RED (downright amazing!)
Skillet (Don't get Awake, check out Collide or Comatose)
Thousand Foot Krutch (They're newest album is great!)
The Classic Crime (I've been really into them lately, both their albums are superb)
Project 86 (pretty much all their stuff is good)
Demon Hunter (All of it is at least decent, but especially check out Summer Of Darkness)
Emery (Good is you like post-hardcore)
Manic Drive (Extremely underrated)
Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head, I'll probably add more later. |
