Question about an old Remington

Ok, I guess this is the right place to put this... If not, feel free to *boosh* this thread to wherever it needs to go....

Also I apologize ahead of time. Guns are not my specialty.

I recently came into possession of a Remington .22 Model 33 bolt action rifle from my grandparents. They're not even 100% sure where they got it, but it's been sitting in their closet since the mid 50s.

I'm not going to even try to use it and I'm probably gonna try to sell it, due to the fact that I'm not a fan of guns (danged hippie, I know). From what I can gather from the all mighty google it was made sometime in the '30s and would be worth $200 in pristine condition. I have no idea of how to tell the condition of the gun though. Should I take it somewhere to have someone appraise it? In my unknowing eyes, it looks good. No rust or anything and all the parts move freely. Also should I get some kind of permit for having this gun?

Our forefathers wrote into our laws the right to keep and bear arms. I think no permit would be required unless your local government requires something special. Even then, that would go against the Constitution IMO.

Guns are like guitars in value. Old guns are valuable but only to those who are interested in guns. Just like old guitars are valuable but only to old guitar enthusiaists.

I wouldn't even know where to begin to find someone that could properly appraise a gun.

My guns will go to my children. They were passed to me from my father who inhereted them from his father. I don't shoot guns either. I don't hunt . I was once a policeman though. My guns are heirlooms moreso than weapons. I gave one to each of my sons last year and the same this year. I will give them one each Christmas until they are gone from my possession.

I may keep one to shoot my banjo though if I don't learn how to pick that scoundrel.

I would take it to a local firearms dealer for appraisal. You might even take it to a few different ones and consider the average appraisal.

For a .22cal rifle you should not need any sort of permit.

tbh if you cant make much money by selling it now I'd hold on to it. It might be more valuable later, and ya never know if you might need it. Just sayin...
